In many parts of Canada and the USA I travel in, I see far too many cleaners not charging enough for their services to live even a moderatly good lifestyle. Judging by the appearance of the vans they drive, you would think they but a job away from ruin. We know that most cleaners are not good businessmen, and do not know even what the service they provide costs them to provide it. The price cutting that results in this often brings the " going rate" for the service below the cost of providing it!

What is the answer?

Ken:  I would like to reply to this.  But it would step on too many of the die hard cleaners of the GTA Especially Mr. Steamer.  Event though the same problem exists in all areas.  I will tell you what I call it.  Negative   Advertising and Bait and Switch from the so called big companies,  Some call it upselling.  I call it like it is missleading advertising for the public, who think they are hireing a brand name.  I better quit.Guitar

  1. Do not be paranoid about losing the job.
  2. Do no be afraid to walk away from a customer.
  3. Stop giving a crap about jimmy the janitor charging $.08/foot.
  4. Realize that the highest priced guy in town is still in business and probably doing quite well, so stop trying to undercut him.
  5. Have confidence in your ability and charge what you are really worth.

...and the list goes on, so please add to it

Mr. Steamer:  I didn't read where anyone mentioned any brand name.  But I believe I read somewhere about companies deliberately low balling to get ther foot in the door.Guitar

When ever this subject is brought up Mr. Steamer sticks  his head back into the sand  and denies this kind of business practice ever happens.  The stupid thing no one is accusing him of anything at all.  That is why I said sh** will hit the fan when topics like this are brought up.Guitar

Hot topic Doug? I thought it might be. But I was tired of doing most of the posting lately with not much response coming back. At least topics like this get people thinking.

.50 for full service furnished cleaning where most things are moved. Less for TA cleaning and empties.
