I would like to refer my customers to some appropriate information about the extent of water damage remediation work that is required in their homes. Since we are only able to help them in terms of carpets and not in terms of drywall or structural repair, I would like to send them some info as to what steps they need to take to complete their flood remediation. Any links or information that any of you veterans can provide is greatly appreciated. Edited by Jodi |

Jodi: This topic is not a one line answer. You have to know how long it has been wet. go to the IICRC web site and order the Water Damage standard and work by it. The only time we remove a wet carpet is to take it to the dump.

Hey doug! Thanks for the quick response. I know it is definately not a one line answer as there are tons of factors. My concern is not around what is happening with the carpets as we are confident with our work in this area but what other concerns the customer may be neglecting in their homes that relate to how the water came in. Really, I am looking for a document or source to refer customers to if they want more detailed info as to why they need to worry about mold in places like their walls, ceilings, etc. Edited by Jodi |

Jodi get the manual keep it with you. It explains everthing you need to know. Ask for the S500 Standard and reference guide for professional water damage restoration. The mold situation. Well Jodi you can be named in a law suit for just taking the carpets and doing what you are doing. If it was as simple as you would like it we would all be rich. Get the manual and get it fast. and most importantly CYA before you get hung. You may be doing this work because other companies have walked and would not do as the homeowner wanted. You are supose to be a compentant contractor. Remember that. The homeowner may just be looking for someone to pay for their repairs and maybe a little sickness to boot.
