ChemDry...the soda pop cleaners...I will say one thing about ChemDry...I have a couple of friends who have ChemDry franchises...one in Florida and one in Alabama...and I know a few other ChemDry owners around the southern area...and they all are successful...very successful...every one that I know seems to be very good at running a BUSINESS...something that we all could use a little help in doing...

For the fees that they pay HR, they should be. HR has a vested interest into making them successful: If they go out of business, no more annual fees coming in! Self interest is the best interest.

I've been going back and forth about the ChemDry thing. That's what I've done for the past tenish years. I've thought about buying a franchise, but I'd like the versatility of doing my own thing. Yes, ChemDry franchises tend to do well--my boss is an idiot and he makes money hand over fist. The problems I see with it are the limitations they impose on territory, products, and technology. To service all of San Diego, I'd have to buy four franchises, and there's a minimum product purchase for each franchise. HR grosses up their prices because franchises are required to buy only from them. This all adds up, and it prevents me from using products that I know would enhance the cleaning if only I were allowed to use them.

About the vans, I can tell you that in my town, ChemDry has some of the ugliest vans around. HR isn't very good at imposing their standards, I guess. But when they do crack down, their fines are severe. One of the stupidest things about ChemDry is the name. I constantly must explain that it's not literally dry (just like steam-cleaners don't actually clean with steam), and it's not a toxic "chemical." The product is very gentle and "natural"--it's called The Natural--but HR/CD can't effectively capitalize on the whole natural/green consciousness thing because their name sounds toxic. It's absurd. I guess it was a much better name back in the day.

John L, valid point you made there, but the funny and strange thing is that marketing companies spend absolutely no money to market their service.....Go Figure
