I believe you underestimate your customers. When you show them you are a Certified Technician, I believe they register in there mind that you should know what you are doing. Great selling tool! Good question though. |

I agree...big scam foolishness....once your certified...why do you have to renew each year or take the course over.... money grab at it's best....they should just do the course and sell you the books ONE TIME FEE... damn I wish I had thought of IICRC |

Adwa I would hope when it is my time for a tripple bypass after eating to many Tim Horton Donuts, God forbid that my doctor will have an updated certificate and know the latest techniques. Mr. Steamer If IICRC did not charge anually for their service, they would have been out of business years ago and this would set our industry back 20 years. (there is no free lunch) As a supplier that puts on IICRC courses and I ask strudents what they learned the most out of the course. There answer is generally always the same, they realize they are worth much more than what they were charging in the past, and they increased their charges the very next day and never looked back. |

Well I've been paying for many years and I don't agree...you get one stinky news letter(thats if you get it) what do they do for my dues....just insist that I take more courses...so they can make more money..... I seriously thought about writting a book "Carpet cleaning for dummies" That could cover everything that they do in their rip off little seminars... I would write a series for everything they got.... I pay my dues...I carry the card.....but I find that I have got nothing out of it..it's all theory very little practical.....all you got to do is listen to what the instructor tells you...high light it....remember it for the test...and there you go 100% But does it help you when you go out into the field....NO It's just another scam to take money away from the hard working people...why should anyone pay the dues for nothing... Wake up people and smell the coffee.....(there is no free lunch) The IICRC burns me up...I wonder if anyone here would like to sit down and help me put together a book(this is one thing I would do for free) Maybe we could get input from all over the world what does IICRC DO for its members...let me tell you...collect your dues...otherwise nothing

I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Steamer on this one. Please don't get all uptight and trigger happy. Every business or idea is thought of or invented for a reason. The IICRC is no exception, what they offer is no more than what you can get by contacting the major carpet manufactures yourself and ask for complete cleaning instructions yourself. What the give you in the end is just an equivalant to a library giving out library cards to people that can't read. Any and all that they have to offer is out there free of charge. I know Ted from kleenKuip will disagree and defend this small portion of profitability that he generates from IICRC. The reality of any business is doing your homework and finding out everything that has to be learned in order to succeed without too much regret. The rest will come from trial and error. Lets face it we are NOT doctors, or anything even close. We play with water and soap, smoke and mirrors, bullsh*t stories, deceit and deception, and most of us have a BIG bad looking truckmount standing proudly in front of our customers house and we look professional. Put a logo on your truck, company and personel name on your shirt pocket, an invoice book, a sprayer container and you can even put on a doctors mask and become The Carpet Doctor, gee whiz, you can even be like Ted and become a carpetologist and make the customers money disappear into yours. Like to see the IICRC teach us that. ( Only joking Ted ) Those of us in the business for many years like myself since 1980 don't really know any more than the next guy that just started a year ago. we just have bigger and better toys and are a little more picky when it comes to the jobs we want to do. How many ways can we clean a carpet, a window, a sofa, a car.......even our own hands will come clean if we scrub them enough with plain old water. Jack from Montreal aka nightrider

iicrc is a joke but in my industry they make us have it or we dont do work for them so its a catch 21 you know what i mean was 300.00 per guy per coarse adds up to a lot of money that no one remembers nothing 1 week later all they try to do at those courses is trying to sell you sh*t you dont need quit tyring to sell stuff & teach more . we could spend $$$$$ on better equpment instead or give raises to are guys |

Education is GREAT, but paying for keeping a certification you already earned seems wrong to me. What, are you going to become WORSE at your job as time goes on? Or are you going to master your job or method or whatever? Any businessman is going to improve, so the renewing of certification makes no sense to me. |

This reminds me of another story related to IICRC, in Quebec a homeowner is not allowed to do their own wiring during renovation by law and the insurance companies stand behind that decisiion, you know why........Only a CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN can connect a black wire to another black wire and a white wire to another white wire. Only a certified roofer can hammer in a nail, only a certified lawn care attendant can spray a chemical on your lawn, only a certified technician can move around a satellite dish outside while his helper inside screams out HEY HEY Thats it we got a picture, you need to be a certified whatever just to make some other assholes think of more crap that they can sell you and tell you how clean your shirts can be, and what cigarettes are better for you to smoke. Please remember all you hard working carpet cleaners out there, you work hard for your money, and don't think a customer gives a dam if you show them a certification card as a professional carpet cleaner.......they're going to think you're retarded or trying to scam them or something. Do you not think this same customer has never cleaned a dish, or cleaned a wall ,or painted one, or even rented a carpet cleaning machine from the local foodstore..........what does that make her.........I'll tell you what that makes her...........A CERTIFIED CARPET CLEANER AND ALL AROUND MAINTENANCE AND SANITARY ENGINEER.........AND HOW IS SHE CERTIFIED BOYS AND GIRLS...........BY HER HUSBAND, HER KIDS, HER FAMILY MEMBERS, HER FRIENDS, AND MOST OF ALL BY THE WAY HER HOME LOOKS AND SMELLS. IICRC, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. AGAIN I HAVE TO SAY.........WE PLAY WITH SOAP AND WATER........I DID THAT WHEN I WAS 2 YEARS OLD TAKING A BATH, WE ALL DID, WE STILL DO, EXCEPT NOW WE GET PAID FOR IT BECAUSE OTHERS ARE TOO LAZY, TOO BUSY, OR TOO RICH AND WOULD RATHER SEE US GET DOWN AND DIRTY, IT GIVES THEM A POWER OF SUPERIORITY OVER ANOTHER HUMAN BEING AND DEMONSTRATES TO THE NEIGHBOURS THAT THEY ARE CLEAN AND ECONOMICALLY STABLE.......IT'S A DOMINO EFFECT......THAT'S WHY IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO LEAVE A FLYER OR MESSAGE STATTING YOU JUST CLEANED THEIR NEIGHBOURS HOUSE AND WILL BE IN THE AREA FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. OR KNOCK ON THEIR DOOR WHILE CLEANING SO THAT THEY CAN COME OVER AND SEE THE WORK IN PROGRESS. JACK FROM MONTREAL AKA NIGHTRIDER |
