What have ya'll found as the safest, most effective method to clean rugs? Even with a solid glider I occasionally get the cheap rugs fraying. I ask because I want to turn a technician loose and not have to buy a client's rugs.

Put your money and confidence into proper training and education before letting your tech loose. Or let him loose and pay down the road. It's a wonderful country we live in, lots of choices.
P.S. Sounds like you are padding. Have you looked at a smaller more manageable and less aggressive alternative small unit for those maybe carpets as in the Oreck Orbiter? |

Two things, wetter pads, and move faster, however when finished and you vacuum the carpet, take the time and return the next day, you should find the carpet undistorted.
