Hello all,
Prespray: How much should I spray on the carpets? It doesn't seem like enough spray is moistening the carpets but then again I have no grid as to how wet they should be with the prespray. Practical Advice? Marketing: I have a website being built by professionals. I have magnets, calendars and other things to handout. I have a trademarked logo designed etc etc. I have a quote from a printing company for ten thousand door flyers. My question is this: Are door flyers effective? Are they considered by seasoned professional carpet cleaners to be sleezy/low class? I want to maintain a healthy competitive atmosphere in the area here but I dont want to be the new guy pissing everyone off by doing stupid new guy things. Software: Does anyone here use a Mac? I know that Mistral 2000 is great software for windows based software however Mistral 2000 can not run on the OSX platform. Any advice? Training: I am signed up for the IICRC training here next month. Is there any additional training that is worth looking into? Thanks- Steven |

I didn't realize the IICRC was in the training business. They are into textbook teaching and testing but that is as far as it goes?

I don't know about software, or any IICRC training.....as far as prespray, put enough to dampen carpet.....you're gonna make it a hell of alot wetter when you wash it so don't worry. As far as marketing.....everything is good, expect a 1% return on door flyers, you may do better. I used to use flyers alot back in the 80"s.....Spring Specials, Summer Specials, Fall Specials, Halloween Discounts, Thanksgiving Discounts, Pre Christmas Specials........any Special I thought of was a good one. Never bothered with magnets, although a good idea.
There is nothing sleezy about getting your name out there and hustling for business, make it a game and you'll do well. My best one was having my truck at a local Shopping Mall Saturday & Sunday giving demos on dirty carpets. I don't remember but I think it cost me about $ 250.oo for the weekend for the space. I never handed out business cards, I think it's a waste, I used to hand out a binded 3 or 5 page fler complete with pictures and testimonials. Whatever the competition is doing, do the opposite........if your competion is offering low ball prices.....raise your price offer additional incentives and attach a guarantee and Free insurance saying.....Ever notice as soon as you wash your car, it rains.....well we at ABC Carpet Cleaning realize that accidents happen and as soon as we finish cleaning your carpet you might drop a whole pot of coffee on your newly cleaned broadloom or perhaps your dog will decide to christen your carpets clean fresh smell.....NOT TO WORRY.....we got you covered.....just call us and we'll return to bring back the beauty again Free of charge.

Carpet how much prespray you use depends on many factors. carpet construction, fiber, density, amount and type of soiling, and most of all are you going to agitate your prespray or just allow it to dwell on it's own. some areas like outer areas of the room may need little or no prespray yet in the field it may require more with agitation and dwell time. Areas in front of furniture and mayor traffice areas in halls and pivot areas may reqiure a bit more. it is aways better to use a bit less and give it good dwell time and agitation than just flood the area. the more you use the harder it is to rinse. The name of the game is to leave as little residue as possible . Maybe this will help you and maybe it won't.

CarpetproKC.....the name of the game is to make money, why else would you wake up every morning and suck $hit out of peoples carpet. Carpet cleaning is not rocket science.....the most important is to start with a good vacuuming over the entire area ( get a pile lifter ) otherwise you're just making mud

I dont know if you guys have Dyson vacuum cleaners over there ( the ones with the clear collection tank ). As soon as the customers see the huge amount of crud you get out BEFORE you start cleaning they are pretty much sold....and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to PROPERLY clean the carpets. If you dont pre vacuum you are doing half a job.
