We have worked for them. They always paid. Nothing bad to say about the people. The only thing I didn't like was the price. You were lucky to get 10 cents a foot and they still wanted HWE. If you absolutely need the work, then go ahead. They were great for our company when first starting out. Besides that, I don't really care for commercial work. Almost all the work we had from them was 9:00 at night or later, and sometimes wanted us to drive up to an hour and a half with no mileage being paid.

Again, the people were "nice" and everything, just cheap.

Just Cheap!!!!!  That is not a bad price for the commercial market. You either like commercial or you hate it, one thing about it is that commercial is a 12 month a year business, unlike residential that is a 9 month cycle.

The days of 10 cent carpet cleaning should be long gone. Have you guys checked your expenses lately?

You will always get what you are willing to think your worth.....Many times some of you don't think to well of yourselves.

No, in the GTA, 10 cents is GREAT pay. 5 cents is GOOD pay.

You have 2 choices in the commercial market.
1.  Price high and stand to lose the account to a lower bidder

2. Price it at a realistic number and keep the account for ever.

It is your choice!!!!!

If ten cents is good pay, we are in entirely different markets. I risk losing customers everyday but seldom do I
cut my price. whoring oneself does not have to be a consideration. IMO . Don't be afraid of loosing a job.

If one can make 100.00 plus an hour at .10 cents than  I do not understand the big problem. We are not rocket scientists, just carpet cleaners. If you choose to only do commercial at your price that is your business, but don't come on this Board and say those of us that understand the commercial market in our area and are happy working for these rates are Whoring ourselves.

Do you bill out 1000 square feet per hour , day in and day out? If so you are doing fine, most can't. and they are charging that price (10Cents)   because they think they are " JUST CARPET CLEANERS < NOT ROCKET SCIENTIST" , and don't deserve any better.

OUR self esteem and OUR price per square foot are directly proportional. for the first fifteen years I acted like I was just a carpet cleaner and didn't dare charge. .....Then I wised up .The last 11 years I have " Chosen" to consider myself a business owner who just happens to be in the carpet cleaning business . Profit is not a dirty word ... it is essential.

Don, If you are pulling in 100.00 per hour and have your expenses under control your doing fine , but most here are probably not pulling in 100.00 per hour at 10 cents per square foot unless op or some low moisture method is being used IMO . It is not likely that they are using HWE and doing a good job on 1000 square feet per hour. If they are I'm looking for a few good techs.

Dan, how do you measure success?
In our city if your house is under 1/2 Mill your an everage Joe.
To own 2 truckmounts, a pair of Cadillacs, a cottage, boat, AND the $400,000 home is still NOT a "rich guy"

So how you livin Mr. Business owner?

In the GTA you can charge ten cents and still own a Ferrari....we have a sh*t load of carpet to be cleaned here. not uncommon to have 14-15 techs on the payroll.
