Hi,
I'm new to the carpet cleaning business. Just getting set up in Virginia. Have owned my own painting and drywall business in Florida and want to get into making better money. In my inquiries I've been seeing the business even at it's worst is still better than what I've been doing. I should have done this along time ago.

Thanks, but I sold my business in Fl and am on my own now.
I know getting going can be slow, but I intend on being busy marketing myself even if I'm not cleaning. I have an opportunity to purchase a carpet cleaning business also. it's a one man op with small customer list. He has only been at it for a couple of years has health issues and is getting out. Think this could be a good idea?
Thanks for your input.

John is right. What you are buying is equipment, few customers if any will stay with you.

Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

I believe you need very good training to enter the carpet cleaning business.

What you need is business sense a true knack for marketing. You can hire people to do the grunt work, some who know what to do already thanks to the last guy that hopefully trained them right.

Where in Virginia are you setting up?
If you are in the Hampton Roads area (Norfolk), there are very good IICRC certification classes at Cleaners Closet on Greenwich Rd. in Virginia Beach. They have teamed with Interlink Supply, so their website is here They also sell used equipment, and are very open to helping new businesses make better decisions. |

Tide68;
perhaps here is another suggestion: There is a neat Gentleman who has been in the business a long-long time in Pinella Park, FL whom you might want to consider contacting if only for a conversation while you are getting your feet wet.
He is a real Professional always willing to help, and he might have some equipment and ideas that would save you alot of time and money----in the short run! His ph# 727-542-3412.
Tell him I said Hello!
The very best;
Ed Valentine

Hi Newby, Mark for Colorado here. I'm a cleaning and painting contractor and find the sevices to be complementary. So much to learn though. I find painting to be easier to market and be careful of your expenses in the cleaning business. It takes alot more capital. Also get all the training you can. I've ruined a few things when I started. Good luck
