evenin all.  had a call today 3 bedrooms, hall, and stairs pretty simple right?  ha!!!  you would think so.  go take a look upstairs hmmmm pretty clean  just alot of big furn in all rooms.  so during the walkthrough the cust {she} says she has stuff under the queensize four poster bed she will move when i get to the desired rooms.  i quickly tell her not to worry about under the HUGE heavy bed as we dont move that type of furn and i will gladly go as far under as i could.  WHAT???  you dont move all the furn?  the lady on the phone said........  anyways i wont bore you with the rest cuz we have all been there and know there are 2 different endings.  a: move the stuff or b: walk.  i tell her again we dont move stuff like that and she says shes isnt paying for traffic lanes she wants her whole room cleaned!!  all of em!!  so i politely tell her to have a nice day and walk.  shes staring at me as i drive away and i try not to smile.  just a sarcastic wave.  what do these people think we do for a living clean carpet or move furn?  it just blows me away what some people expect.   would you have walked? i am getting sooo tired of these peopleAngry

my ass wouldn't have hit the  door dude....LOL

3 bedrooms for us is only 84-94.50 depending on what part of the gta...I just ask do you think moving all that furniture cleaning the rooms and them putting back is covered under 84 bucks?  and I give them a stupid look????  say if anything breaks will 84 bucks cover it?? I look at them again..

then I say while i'm cleaning I can not stop for more than 1 minute or the water will overboil in the unit and send out black water all over the rugs..

then I say ...I have customers that move out everthing..but it in the basement or garage to get a corner to corner clean...do you want to rebook???

some say yes
some say no

but I advise anyone not to move a thing because if you break it you've bought it

I just say my liability policy prohibits it and let them decide if they would like to sign a waiver permitting me to move it and not be financially responsible for the damage.

That takes the bite out of it.  If they persist in getting the service including moving large and sensitive objects without signing the waiver, I let the them off the hook by telling them I believe SS can meet their needs and then apologize any inconvenience they may have experienced with taking time off, prepping the rooms themselves, etc.

Standing your ground is the sign of a professional.  And everyone here is with you on your decision.  You have a business, not a job and the customer is a client, not the boss.

Are you in a high paying business or are you just a self employed low paid grunt who thinks this business provides dignity?

Giving customers what they want is part of the business, and you should provide them with 2 options a cost to clean o/a only or a cost to move all furniture, it is that simple. "WE ARE IN THE PEOPLE PLEASING BUSINESS"  Piss them off and they will tell other people about you.

To advise before is to educate the customer, explaining afterwards is called excuses.

We no longer move furniture in the bedrooms ..." we clean 100% of the visible carpet without moving the furniture. Just so you know in advance you will be charged for the entire room as we do trim around each piece of furniture which is as time consuming as cleaning an empty room. In the living rooms we move the couches, chairs and love seats but ask that you remove all small furniture including lamps , end tables and small items such as plants, nic - nacs and ceramics. We do not move anything with glassware in it or any thing with wires such as computer desks or stereo systems or TV's.

As long as people know, they have been really well prepared and it has made my life much easier than when I was afraid to take charge of the cleaning before I even arrive. It runs more professional and structured and not as many issues.

The prep conversation is extremely important to your success. IMO
