First post on the forums, please be gentle.... We have been offered a porty that was custom built with metal tanks and has two three stage blowers on it. I know this gets asked alot but how much 2" hose would be able to be run from this unit before it starts to loose it's vacuum?

Vacuum is lost with every inch, but you'll be able to go 50 feet and not notice too much loss. 75 feet is doable. I try to stick with 25 feet whenever possible. Borrow some hose and see what works best for you.

Not trying to change subjects but kind of goes along with what I am still researching, would it be better to get a single 7.2" 3 stage vac or two of the smaller ones? Or pony up for two 7.2s? |

Pony up. If you're in it for the long term, the increased cost will be a couple of dollars a year over the life of the motors. Mine are 12 years old.

How much more power will the 7.2" blowers provide? And how many amps do those monsters pull each?

You want to go with the most power possible. The 14 amp 7.2 vacs may not be possible with certain pumps because you'll be pulling too many amps, and you'll probably only get a 10% increase in waterlift and nearly the same cfm. Personally, I wouldn't go with fewer than two 3-stage vacs. One machine I have has two 7.2 vacs and another has two smaller 3-stage vacs that are nearly as powerful, but has two heaters. I like both machines.
Another machine I have has two vacs (a 2 and a 3 stage) in series. I prefer them in parallel. Boosters are an option too. I own around 12 portables, so I've seen nearly every combination possible. Edited by FriendlyHammer - 26/October/2007 at 7:23am |
