I am trying to find out whether the relative humidity in a room will cause wicking of a dormant spot. If I have cleaned a spot (presumably a tannin spill), and I am able to dry it completely without wicking, can wicking occur in the future if the relative humidity rises in the future? If so, what % of relative humidity would the room need to get to for wicking to occur?

Yes. It's happened to us(usually in August) on commercial glue down. Not sure what the RH was though

100% you need to get rid of some realitives? The floor would have to be sweating for that to happen?

Powerbond is the worst for wickbacks. As an experiment, I had one of my techs flush a 20 x 20 area for 5 hours with a Steamin Demon and dry it with fans. The water was still coming out brown and it still wicked dirt

Some spots that have been over-worked on with different chemicals tend to fool you and look like they come back but infact the residue left from the overworked chemical is actually attracting new soil to the same area making your customer think the stain has returned.
You should also pluck a fiber from the carpet in question and put it into a glass of water. If it floats it is Olefin and Olefin wants to wick-up rapidly regardless of humidity. Edited by Carpetologist - 01/October/2007 at 5:51pm |

If there is enough cleaner on it it will break the surface tension of the water and sink?
