somewhere on this site one of you gave some advise on how to use yahoo or google to get addresses from a specific area of town etc. does anyone else remember this. maybe you can help me find that post or know how it is done without buying a list or going thru several hours of tedious work.

Yes, direct mail works. But, you must have a compelling offer and well written mail piece.
Two sources for mailing lists are infousa.com and accudata.com |

I started my carpet cleaning company while majoring in advertising. Ten years later, I started Hitman Advertising. We deliver specialty advertising to the carpet cleaning industry.

If you use infousa their asking price is bogus. Generate your list.
Ignore the price given on the screen. Then call a customer service rep.
and bargain with him. They work on commission.

Direct mail postcards work but on a limited scale and with postage being what it is today it can be very costly compared to the return.
Here are some ideas:
Flyer handouts in plastic door hangers: they work well but take some time
Telemarketing: works good if your more interested in uncovering a problem than selling. The secret: finding customers that are in need TODAY
Yard Signs: ones that are professionally done at a graphics place. Can be used in customers yards after the job for a week (Of course you need a customers permission).
These are a few ideas that I have used on over 20 years in the business.

Hi,
Just wanted to chime in here. I am a pressure washer, not a carpet cleaner, but were all in the same boat right?
I found a mail house local and ordered jumbo p.c. from overnight prints. I did a demographic list with them and sent out 1500 cards twice. The first one I got 14 calls on and the second one I got 8.
I believe direct mail and the internet is the way to go. I hate yellow book, yellow pages, etc.
