Does anyone know of anyone who works in the water damage mitigation or drywall patching and painting business? I recently had a leak in my water line on the second floor and had to have some work done on my living room ceiling. The total cost of repair not including plumbing repair is $1789.05 with a $1000 deductible. The insurance is trying to lowball me and only pay $346.02 instead of $789.05. Besides this company, I also had another company come in first to check out the damage. I asked the first company around how much it would be for the water mitigation, patching, and painting, and the guy said anywhere from $1200-1500. However, I later decided to go with a different company, and this was what I was charged. Can anyone tell me if this pricing is fair for the Charlotte area? For one, I am not sure if I was overcharged; for two, I don’t know how to make the insurance company pay up the difference. Any help is appreciated!! I live in Charlotte NC.

These guys have it right with the Xactimate format, but I have one little add- continue to survey. Survey your competitors and your clients and I am sure you will wind up with a good and acceptable price list.

If you're working with insurance you need to learn about how to use the Xactimate format. If you're working for the homeowner, then you just have to bid what you think is fair. Different areas charge different amounts. We get 4X more in Atlanta than we do in Boise.

Most insurance companies require an Xactimate type format. I deal with Preferred Vendor Programs daily. Xactimate 27 is awesome. You can use what ever you like. Keep in mind that some programs do require Xactimate and certain versions. I write with 25 & 27.

I used the Bluebook program for over 20 years and never once had a claim or invoice rejected by an insurance company.

I know about the program. Did you buy the professional or standard? Will your claims be rejected if you dont use xactimate?

If you are going to be doing work for insurance claims than you will need to use the xactimate program.

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Just new to water restoration. Pricing is something that is stressing me out. I only have a general idea of what to charge and how to charge. Anyone have a price list I could look over to give me a better idea of what to charge?
Anything you email me will be kept confidential and I will use your prices as a guide.
