There are SO MANY webiste design and SEO fly-by-night scammers out there. Buyer Beware!

Nice video and website.
I'm positive about the negative...and negative about the positive.

Hey, I realize this is an old thread . I'm hoping to provide a little insight and as always learn and get feedback from others in the group.

So I have two business here in Langley. A plumbing contracting business and my carpet cleaning biz.

We hired a guy to do the carpet website and it looked fine but generated literally no leads for us - for like two years. I never had time to do anything about it until the last couple of months . I'm pretty tech savvy so I took a step back and learned a few new skills - took me probably two weeks to get things figured out and I thought what the hell - new plumbing business, I may as well take a crack at putting up my first site.

So, within a few weeks of putting it up ( I won't lie it was a bit of a pain, but like anything that's hard it was satisfying too) it was on page 2 to page 4 of google - my carpet cleaning site NEVER got that high. Took down the old carpet site put a new one up that I built and it's doing right about the same as the old one but I expect it will move higher (it's just a week old) Here's the site if you're curious -  http://www.langleycarpetcleaner.com

Given how my plumbing site is doing,  I threw a video up onto my carpet site to see if that would push it up in the rankings . you can check it out on YouTube here  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnxszo4W29Q

Anywho - I'm happy to help anybody out there who is trying to figure this stuff out on their own - I know I would have appreciated the help.

Peace!

That's true.  I'd rather have a professional do it so I can focus on business.

If you're willing to devote a few hours a day to learning it's something that can be done.

You can run it of a content management system like wordpress and build it off of a theme. If you're picky and want a lot of custom pages and designs, that's when you might want to look into hiring a designer.

Completely agree with this.  My good friend owns http://www.newtonfireandflood.com - www.newtonfireandflood.com and he hired a guy to build the site and do the search engine optimization for him.  It's definitely worked out in his favor as he's near the top for almost any related search result you can type in.

I have made many commercials and the kiss was my trademark. The commercial you are likely asking about that is one of my regular customers.

My wife is in several of my commercials. This is is two commercials put together. My wife is the pretty little red head who kisses me last. Don't laugh at my hair. It was in style then.

That kiss made me a boat load of money.

I am the first to agree that my commercials are cheesy they also happened to be extremely effective.

I know it seems hard to understand but whenever I would go into stores women would come up to me and ask to kiss me. Kids would get all excited and start singing the Power Clean song. I even had an MP at a military base sing the entire song to me perfectly. In all I made about 15 tv commercials and back when I was running them they cost me $2000 a month. They generated about $25,000 a month. They also made everything else I did more effective. We asked every customer why they choose us and many times they would say I saw you in the yellow pages or the coupon book or I got your door hanger and I remembered your tv commercials so I called you.
I was already a familiar face and message to them  which gave me a huge advantage over my competitors.

Once I started really working on my marketing I went from around $50,000 annually to around $400,000 annually in just two years.

I was also able to stop doing the carpet cleaning myself and dedicate myself to other parts of the business and pursuing other interests, like golf.

So no Mr. Steamer it is not just about price. It's about all the things that our potential customers care about when they choose a carpet cleaner.

If I remained doing what I was doing way back in 1998 where by the way my marketing was all about the price, I would still be breaking my back every day cleaning carpets myself.

Instead I retired at 53, I play golf 2-3 times a week and I am doing what I love which is marketing.

So I am curious, you say the only thing that matters is price yet on your website the only place the price is listed is on the special offers page.
Have you done a Google analytic to see how many people are clicking on the special offer page?

If price is the only thing that matters then why is there a picture of a baby on your home page. What is that baby supposed to signify? Why don't you have a picture of someone saving money? Isn't that the only thing that matters?
Why do you have pictures of carpets you have cleaned? People don't care about that stuff do they? Why is there a cool you tube video of tile cleaning showing how well your equipment works? That doesn't happen to be a trust point does it?

You do what the majority of people do. What you think is important to you is what you think is important to your potential customers. What you care about is what you think they care about. You and I Mr. Steamer are not our own demographic. It does not matter one damn bit what we think is attractive or interesting or compelling. it matters what our potential customers think is important. You already know this because of the baby on your front page. Unless of course you just love pictures of babies and have them hanging everywhere. That same women who thinks , oh what a cute baby will also see other trust points like Yes the BBB or an IICRC certification and have an emotional reaction just like when they see the baby. It is a different reaction but a good emotional reaction all the same. Have you ever heard the saying, " facts tell, emotions sell" it is very true. That's why you have the baby there. That's why I have the kiss trademark.

I am not sure why I am wasting my valuable time writing this stuff to you. I have two websites I have to finish up for clients. I am pretty certain you will ignore everything I said and just yell at me about how stupid I am and only price matters and how you are the authority on successful carpet cleaning marketing.

I'll keep that in mind during my golf game this afternoon.

I am curious, why do the majority of businesses in this form not have websites?

You can build your own web site and have it hosted pretty cheap on sites like
Tripod, Godaddy, and Angelfire. I've been using Tripod since I was 16 for different web sites I've done. When my husband started our Carpet cleaning business I built a basic web site. http://www.speedysteamer.net - www.speedysteamer.net

These last couple of years I have done tons of research and countless hours in improving our web site and our Google search results. The first year we started our business I made the costly mistake of hiring "HotSpot" to help improve our web site on Google. $250 per month, plus one time fee of $199, and they flood the internet with our information but their contact number for us. I just learned how to SEO by myself and dropped the middle man. Lots of time has to be put into the web site. Having a good Blog, forums, and a good page density has helped. We now average between page one and two on the search terms "sacramento carpet cleaning."

Trading links with other carpet cleaners in different cities has helped a lot as well. Also creating web sites for different cleaning or cities in our area and linking them back has increased our ranking.

Don't use those foreign based SEO services.  Industry specific in the country you are from are the only one that know how to get you localized viewings.  The SEOs in these backwards third world countries will get a BC business seen by a Toronto suspect which does the business no good but they delivered, you pay. Example is when those idiots post on this site.
BTW, I like the look of http://myherocleaning.com (rounded corners are good, color choices are great) however if you want to make money cleaning putting your prices on your site does two things... it turns the suspect into a price shopper which you don't want and it infrequently makes you look like a pro who must do his dog and pony show to build rapport and make 3 or 4 times what you advertise.  You are looking desperate.  That will scare away a buyer.
It's ORY GUN, not OR A GONE. Learn to talk.
