Guys, thanks for the help. I unrolled it, vacuumed, and wrapped with paper to roll up this morning.

It's best to wrap your area rugs in paper...because of what Lee said

VERY IMPORTANT --sometimes rolling up the carpet causes the odour to be worse.
try not to let the backing touch the face fibers. |

Cheap latex backing. The smell will never completely go away

Anybody know what this is?
A customer wants to know if the smell will come out of a large wool area rug that they bought at auction. It had a lot of fine white powder/dust and smelled like a room full of tires. I gave them a price and told them I couldn't guarantee the smell would go away. I hung it up outside and blew most of the white dust out with compressed air. Vacuum and steam clean - most of the smell has gone. I'm going to give it back and tell them to continue vacuuming both sides. Before I do, any ideas what this white dust and smell might be? Any cleaning suggestions if I run into this again? Thanks for the help. |
