FriendlyHammer,

Unless you have an additional dry filter bag in your truckmount system you are not doing your equipment any favours. Truckmounts have a filter for wet slush only. Vacuuming lint and dust will plug up the truckmount filter very quickly and put strain on the blower not to mention the fine dust that will go into your blower.

Everyone agrees with you, yet 95% of the professional carpet cleaners that I know do not own a vacuum cleaner as part of their equipment in the vehicles that they use. There are possibly many theories for this but it's been said that it's your mother's fault. She always made you clean up and vacuum as punishment when you were bad, and you can't get that out of your mind.

Also, men are macho and being seen actually vacuuming a carpet is a sign of femininity or weakness. Now, at the other end of your super sucker truckmount is different? or is it?

Want to remove more soil and do a better job than your competitors? Then buy and use a vacuum cleaner.

I was always taught this was one the most important steps to a perfect cleaning.
If any of you are vacuuming, what type of machine are you using?

The logic goes like this (for better or worse):

If I just went over the carpet with the wand from my TM, the carpet would be vacuumed with more cfm than any upright. While I have my wand out to vacuum the carpet, I might was well go ahead and clean it.  Of course, my wand won't "beat" the carpet like an upright, so I'll go over it a couple of times.

"This will cause oil to rise to near $100 by the end of November. It stays up there to about the end of February. Better save this so you know who told it to you first."

Hi, I'm in Virginia. I use a Hydramaster truckmount. When I price carpet, if the carpet needs vacuuming, I tell the customer it has to be done. I tell them the price if they vacuum and another if they want me to vacuum. make sure you charge enough extra to make it worth your time.

Here's a tip: If they've got a cheap piece of crap vacuum that wont pick up much, just give them the price for your vacuuming and cleaning.
