How big a population is the area you have that serves this yellow page area? Ok the yellow pages cover a 4 town area my town is ruffly 10,000 the other 3 between 8,000 and 10,000 but portland is 10 minutes away from 750,000 pop. town. When I was looking at yellow pages we have 2 differnt books the one that covers the 4 towns had 5 ccb advertised the one for just my town 2.
How many trucks does your competition have? I now one of the competitors has 1 van thats it I am not sure on the other guy. I have seen the one van in town never the other guy. Are they CDS units or slide in units? CDS not sure of terminoligy sorry. Slide in I am not sure drove by the guys house yesterday he wasnt home he works out of his house. How much are they charging for single family home carpet cleaning (not what they claim - but what they really charge) I called the one guy in town he was charging .22 cent sq. ft with out moving furniture. I called several of the places in Corpus I have got quotes of $59 a room $79 for 3 rooms and hallway. Corpus is the large town about 45 minutes from here. How long have they been in business? The one guy here in town about 2 years the other 10+ Has that company been through ownership changes? The 2 here in town no. Is this company a franchise? Neither here in town are. How much time per month can you spend on the business cleaning carpets and sales and education? I don't mind answering this question I as I stayed in my intro I have alot of time off during the month I would like to build up where I could do 2-3 jobs a day on days off. One thing about cleaning carpet my wife say I am anal about ours I usally vacum atleast once a day 2 kids and the other thing is I enjoy it I go down to the local Wal-mart and rent there equipment about ever 3-4 months and do my house and fathers. The education part I would really enjoy. I like learning new stuff and exspecially if it pays off in the long run and I might be able to get out of the plant life. How much cash can you raise initially? Initially I can go about $3500 How much do you feel comfortable borrowing and how much can you afford per month in payment to service a loan or a line of credit? I would rather go with the $3500 I would initially invest and see where I go from there. I hope this can help. |

Hunt. This is a good place for advice. Ed Valentine is a very credible person to listen to. I would suggest you PM him and have a conversation with him directly. It looks like you have a good opportunity in your community. Not knowing your financial circumstances or more about the size and demographics it is hard for some of us to try and advise you.
Here are some suggestions if you haven't done this allready. If you care to bring back this information to us we would be glad to give you oppions How big a population is the area you have that serves this yellow page area? How many trucks does your competition have? Are they CDS units or slide in units? How much are they charging for single family home carpet cleaning (not what they claim - but what they really charge) How long have they been in business? Has that company been through ownership changes? Is this company a franchise? Questions to ask youself but not necessarily devulge to us How much time per month can you spend on the business cleaning carpets and sales and education? How much cash can you raise initially? How much do you feel comfortable borrowing and how much can you afford per month in payment to service a loan or a line of credit? The reason for thess questions is that it might be wiser for you to have a different range of equipment that what you are currently looking at. The rotovac system will work but depending on a few things it might be better for you to do something else. Your first year is about getting setup and learning and I wouldn't expect to to take one dime of profit because as you go you will likely see ways of reinvesting it your company especially in education. You might have some good months but then you problably will find ways to spend that money on additional training or equipment. |

In my experience, 100 psi will not be enough to effectively run a rotovac. Also, you will require extreme CFM's/Airflow to get the results you will desire.

Yes I have seen if you order the rotovac PW you should also order the .75 nozzles or the 1.00 what about the glides.

Wow! Only two other companies in the yellow pages?! Talk about no competition.
Anyways, The rotovac is good for trashed carpet...But its too damn slow and you can REALLY over wet the carpet if you dont reduce the jet size.
Just do a search and youll find alot of info on here.

Hello my name is Hunt I am looking into starting a carpet cleaning business. I work as a plant worker and work shift so I only work 14 days a month looking to get out of the plant life and start a business. I would start off doing it on my days off. I have been doing research on the demographics of the area I live in and how many carpet cleaners are in the are. The community I live in is a tourist area so there are alot of weekend rental homes and condo's the perminant residence in the are have disposable income. I have checked around town and the yellow pages there are only 2 other businesess in town. I know one has a truck mount not sure about the other. The population off the community is around 10,000. I have lived here my in entire life and now several people in real estate and business. I have been looking at getting the Rotovac starter kit and had some question about equipment. Is the Rotovac good for a starup business. I have the brochure form rotovac and have questions about the extractor since I am going portable. The standard extractor that comes with the startup kit $2995 is the speedster 1000HV 100PSI no extra charge thers is also the stormchaser model 900-01 for $210 and the Ninja 411-22 for $160 all 100psi. This is what I am looking at any feed back would be appreciated.
