With (once again) many apologies, doug,
I didn't start this thread here, I responded to one of YOUR posts, and I did think that (may I quote the forum description here?) "General discussion on anything related to carpet cleaning" means this discussion is on topic. Please, after you tell us where your marvelous stats come from, educate me on HOW this discussion could be construed as off topic. Maybe it belongs in the ceiling fan forum? Or is there a special forum for ceiling fans with LARGE motors? I haven't said you were avoiding any issues, but I'm feeling the breeze from some ducking and weaving.... Cheers! -Allen "Surround Sound" Surroundings |

Mr. surround sound: I do not want ot sound like I am avoiding the issue. There is a section on portable carpet machines. This is to try and keep people on topic. Have a good day.

Many apologies, doug.... you did not actually mention a truckmount, you
threw a "give me a break" at the suggested option of placing a portable
in the garage.
You have thrown yet another expert statistic into the discussion... first it was 98% humidity (and rising), which is pretty extreme and as of yet not backed up by anything solid, now we have you claiming that a ceiling fan with a "large motor" is needed to vent my portable. Is this from your own experience using portables recently, or is this something you have researched, or did you just kinda make it up? Perhaps just a little? Never mind, I've answered this question for all: you permanently have a disclaimer at the bottom of your posts that explains it. Glad that's cleared up! |

Mr. Surrond Sound. I didn't mention anything about a truckmount. This is in regards to your thinking that an exhaust fan has enough power to draw the exhaust from your portable. If that was true the fan would be the size of a ceiling fan with a very large motor attached. In reality they move very little air. Maybe down under they do have very large exhaust fans. Do they have all their belongings nailed to the floors just incase they get sucked outside?

Portable mentality... you mean a 'GO anywhere' mentality? Because that's what I have... Oh, I want a truckmount. It'll help my set up times wonderfully, but I'm not trading in the FX-88-HP! You're not looking at real life here, mate, you're regurgitating a truckmount partyline that MIGHT have been true years ago, but is no more valid then saying that cell phones will never take off because they're bulky, full of static, and overpriced. I cut my teeth on a truckmount. I was 13 years old cleaning investment quality Persian rugs for my old man's business every weekend. Don't think that I'm some start-up newbie with a 2-jet wand and no clue. You go spouting off stats like you're AC Nielson surveys, but theres no reality behind them. Come on over down under, and I'll take you to a few jobs. Setting up in the garage is no different then your truckmount parked at the end of the drive, pal. Cheers, Allen |

Well Mr surround sound. Give me a break with using the bathroom fan or kitchen fan, if you think you are exhausting everything threw those fans you have a portable mentality. In the garage for christ sake give me a break!!! |

Doug, A bit of thought from the carpet cleaner avoids this issue. Many times I set up in a kitchen, laundry, or bathroom and all of those traditionally have exhaust vents or fans to remove the humidity from the room. Turn the fan on. Looky that... problem solved. When I can, I set up in the garage, so it's not even an issue. I am interested in your statistic of 98% humidity though... to quote Mark Twain, "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics." Back it up, mate. Cheers, Allen |

i agree with having a step by step forum. i am new to this field and am need of assistance myslef. I have done a lot of research but I know that getting advice from people who are actually out in the field is much better. The way I see it is that I'm sure that everyone in this forum is from a different location so why be afraid to give out information. If information, advice and so on is not what you want to give than why even be in this forum? www.baneclene.com also carry those door curtains for less than $100 and I believe www.jondon.com and www.magicwandco.com as well. |

Nighthawk: First of all what are the surfaces covered with? Wallpaper? semi gloss paint? flat latex paint? Is this clean for repaint or for finish appearance? These are a few things to take into consideration when determining which method and what product to use for the job. Are the baseboards painted the same as the walls? Or painted with an oil, or stained? More info please.

So they go for the name...because they have been screwed over by many small company's running portables...or techs that don't have a clue .....they charge the same as the big guys...and there is no guarantee that the customer can trust... Lots of the stains that I leave behind CAN NOT BE REMOVED...but next time I'll just call fresh and clean...they can get EVERYTHING OUT... FRESH & CLEAN & FULL OF CHEMICAL |

Anyone ever ask me a question and I can answer it I will. Anyone who knows me will vouch for it. I am not afraid of the competition, never will be. In a country where half the people who own carpet don't ever get it cleaned, another 25% or more clean it themselves, I know its not the other cleaners who are the competition. I also know why people are leary of carpet cleaners, what with so many out there who don't move furniture or even attempt to remove stains, who can blame them??

Mr Steamer: I don't get paid for what I know. Because if that was the case I would be broke. But I have never had a problem trying to help anyone. To be generic and just expect someone to explain what?? Unfortunately in most of my experiences in the restoration part every job is a whole new ball game. I have a hard time just bunching all I have done in one paragraph. But I am certainly available to help anyone if the need arises. Just my opinion.
