They don't "come and go" in my city. They take out very expensive adds and work on volume--the bait and switch works often enough. Miller's Carpet Care is particularly bad. Almost every horror story I've heard has been directly from a customer of mine. They suck, but they're still in business. Read the coupon very carefully. A lot of these guys itemize every charge, including basic detergent. In other words, twenty bucks might get you what some of these guys will call a "steam vac." They'll also itemize each spot and charge for them separately. But hey, people are stupid. I once lost a job to a Miller's coupon, back when I was with Chem-Dry. She wanted a pet urine treatment, but cancelled once she found out that it ould cost her extra, ans then she waived that stupid coupon in front of my face. I told her they'd charge extra also, but she insisted they that it was included. As evidence, she pointed to the cartoon picture of a dog on the coupon underscored by the words, "Odor Control"--no price listed. I actually laughed in her face, wished her good luck, and strolled out of there.

These types have been around for ever they come and go, however, they do rely on upselling, average job is alot more than advertised. The tech's are paid on commission so if they don't upsell they don't make very much money on the job. I have heard on many occasion if the customer does not buy the upsell they often just get in there car/van and drive away without doing any cleaning. These types give our industry a bad reputation. Years ago I was involved in a 5 day training session with a firm that operated like this, the manager was trying to improve their operation. It was sad to see how they went about their business. Example 1 gallon of scotchgard = $10,000.00 in sales, applyed it with a hand held 16 oz sprayer, mostly water. There was not one pump up sprayer in the entire operation, which had several truckunits. It went on and on, constant staff turnover, they were paid strickly on commission, no concerns for quality of cleaning only how much they could upsell each job. The big item each day was to see which one of them could get the biggest ticket each day.

If they are b&s operators you will soon see that the market will weed them out...ppl talk...especially if they do a bad job and the invoice was 10 times the ad price the custy had to pay... Whatsmore,,,, Don't worry,,, Keep your company's customers in mind at all times. Be sure the work you do is excellent quality (I'm sure it is),, the kind they'd be happy to buy. At the same time,,, try to work as efficiently as you can... Make sure the work you do represents value for your custy's. With this attitude...you will produce profits and build a successful business.... It's good to be on top in your area....

I got a flyer in the Val-pak today Carpet Cleaning 2 Rooms $19.95 "Steam Cleaned" it says on the flyer. They also Recommend Deep Cleaning for best results. I would think its all bait and switch. I called them on the telphone and they want to come to the house to do it and give an estimate they wont tell prices on the phone. Let me know guys if I have to worry about a company like this advertizing in my neighboorhood.
