Charging extra for moving furniture during carpet cleaning is a common and reasonable practice among many professional carpet cleaners. Several factors contribute to this decision...

  • Time and Labor: Moving furniture is a labor-intensive task that requires additional time. Time is money, and professionals rightly charge for the effort involved in rearranging furniture to access all carpeted areas.
  • Liability: Moving furniture carries a risk of damage, both to the furniture and the property. Professionals may charge an additional fee to account for the potential liability and ensure that they can cover any damages that might occur.
  • Specialized Equipment: Moving heavy furniture may require specialized equipment, such as sliders or dollies. If professionals need to invest in or use extra tools to move furniture safely, this can contribute to an additional charge.
  • Client Convenience: Some clients may prefer not to deal with the hassle of moving furniture themselves. Offering a service to handle this task can be viewed as an added convenience, justifying an additional charge.

However, it's crucial to communicate transparently with clients about any additional charges. Clearly outline your pricing structure, including whether moving furniture is included in the standard service or requires an extra fee. This transparency builds trust and helps avoid misunderstandings.

$ is a great motivator.

I don't charge extra to move furniture

I am like one of those 2 for 1 pizza places. Buy 2 for the prices of 1 or buy 1 and get a discount  free delivery, but if you pick it up you get a discount  no extra charge to use your credit card, but if you pay cash you get a discount

People like the word DISCOUNT almost as much as FREE.

So I give a discount if they move the furniture or have me go around it

I do a discount if they vacuuming as well.

Don't work for free.

What would you rather do work so you don't have to pay extra

or work so that you get a discount  ?

A discount is like free $ to people

What would you rather have your costumers say about you;

A. He charged me extra to move my furniture.

B. I move my stuff out of his way and he gave me a discount.

You make the same, and your costumers get to do what they like best; SAVE $$$

A closed mind is like a closed book; just a block of wood

I'm starting to like Steamers style, he promotes a fair price for his clients, does a decent cleaning job, gets referrals from them, charges extra for extra work or moving of furniture.

Doesn't even have to trick them with the Free carpet cleaning and just buy Scotchguard trick.

Someone should make a comic carpet cleaning working class hero out of him.

Spruce.........That's a Classic............you have the best reason to move furniture in all the posts here, including mine for not moving it.

If I get back into the business I re-consider my options of moving furniture at no extra cost.

It is almost worth moving furniture just to see the look on the wife's face when you move the sofa an find the hubby's porn when she is standing right there.

You find a lot of wired thing under the furniture.
