Any ideas how to remove black staining around where carpet meets baseboards or around floor air registers?
What causes this?

I know and if you complete an IICRC carpet cleaning tech course you will too. Until then do the world a favor and don't clean carpets for money.

I just love how many jaded carpet cleaners there are on here. So insecure.
When I'm making over $100/hr with zero overhead, why would I stop?
lol
good luck to you

its caused by differential air pressure between rooms. Its called filtering. Basicly air moves under the wall, because the air pressure is different in each room. The carpet acts as a filter taking dirt particals out of the air.
Good news is the spots do come out, bad news is you usually have to work at it. Prespray, and scrub with a brush before steaming.
The spots WILL come back however. The customer can reduce the problem by putting in a good air filter.
Just an FYI, I know this because I've taken the IICRC carpet cleaners course.

If you make over $100/hr cleaning carpets and you don't know what the dark lines are and how to get rid of them, you are either a con-man or a liar ---- which one is it?
