Cleaning up after a murder scene

I was called by a client who has properties.  A woman stabbed her husband 40 times in her house, and murdered him.  The home was locked for 3 months during the investigation.  She now needs to clean up the home.  It looks like a murder scene right off TV, and the smell...well it smells scary.  I have never handled something of this magnitude.  I dont want to turn the job down, but think this may be a little beyond a basic carpet cleaner.  I would think there is blood in the pad and to the floor.  The walls look like there was paint thrown on the walls and hand prints all over them in blood.  How do I even start to bid a job like this, and I would think the carpet should be replaced due to health hazzards.  Any advise?

I would use a bissell. 

There is alot involved with doing this type of work. Proper PPE for one. If any thing is going in the garbage, anything with blood has to go in Bio waste the rest goes in garbage. So if you have a matress with blood on it, you will have to cut out the areas affected with blood and seperate affected & unaffected. By the way it cost 100 bucks a lb to properly dispose bio waste. I wouldn't even try cleaning carpet or furniture, you'd be surprised how much blood is under there. If you want the smell gone all the blood must be gone. You may want to sub this out, unless you have time to take a course in Trauma Scene Clean Up. This is very time consuming as well 1 bedroom took me 2days thats cuting up sheets blankets the matress box spring removeing some of the tile floor cleaning sealing etc etc. Tell your client to maybe call her insurence company they may cover it. This type of work is not cheap. Hope this helps.

Oh..I passed on the deal.  I found it to be very interesting though.  Seems as if you where properly trained, and focused on that end of the business, you might have a gold mine.

If  your in that situation....Its scary you know! The smell, the picture of that scene that is present in that place...But you need to do the job will,and try to change the carpet than to clean it up......it smell hazardous into your health....
