Just bought 4th van in case one of three that are on the road breaks down.
Here it is I can get the 4th van going with 4 8 to 9 calls 2nd set 10 to 12  3rd set and 12 to 2 and so on. Aside from  my business partner TI am afraid of hiring a non family member. I pay them as sub contractors and give them a w-2.
I have no workmans comp and is this considered tax evasion.

Is it better to keep it small or grow I have thought about hiring sales agents at some point paying minimum wage  and 25 % commission up to 5 k , 30 % for  5 to 8 k anything after 8 k 35 % per month.

Currently I am lucky I am making a paycheck. Aside from bus ins., gas ,ads, upkeep, chems and vehicle ins.   Stay small or grow?????  Thumbs Up   Thumbs Down  Pray

One way of doing it here in Australia is to put the guys on sub-contract. This is how I worked in the industry before I went out on my own.

I worked for an employer, he supplied the van, the equipment and the chemicals. I did the work for $150 to $200AU per day (based on number of jobs per day 5 being minimum). Any extra jobs/work I brought in my self commercial or residential, I got 50% and the employer got the other 50%. ie $100 job we split it.

As a sub contractor, I then had to have my own insurance, as part of the contract. So any damage to the equipment, van or customers carpets I had to pay for.

So for example an average day 5 jobs for the day. Each at $100AU.

5 x $100 = $500 - $150 Contractor = $350 - $100 expenses (approx) Fuel chemicals etc. = $250 in you pocket.  Which you would then have to pay your tax from etc.

So $250 a day for 6 days = $1500 per week $6000 per month.

Now these are Australian figures, I'm not sure what you would charge for 3 rooms and your expenses can differ these are just approximations

Also with contractors working for you you can free up time to spend a day on the road with them and see how they talk to your customers. See the quality of there work etc. That's hard to do if your working as well on jobs.

Also any commission's, percentages terms or conditions you need to make sure they are in the contract before they start.

I think you should grow the more you grow the less physical work you need to do and the more you can work on your business not in it. Hope this helps a bit.Smile

Here in order to qualify as a sub they need there own van and equipment as well as not wearing your company shirt this is from my new understanding.
The last thing anyone wants is let the irs rip them a new one. Just curiuous on how other companies here work and pay there carpet cleaning techs.  Brick Fall

I heard to get workmans comp a old trick is to say the hired person is a telemarketer rather than a carpet cleaning tech the rate is better. Steering

Lean and mean ! Little slow time to catch some salmon while it is the season  out here.  As of now it is time to gear up for the holidays and put some money away this years winter season.

After the winter balls to the wall. Fencing Fight
Going to run this business at a higher level with sales reps with huge commission incentives. I want this company to run on its own. I can sell it just wasting my time on wanding. I mean I can professionally pitch a sale and seal the deal with protector.
Must find a way to let this run on its own and just sell commercial jobs and leave the residentials to the techs. Hopefully the money can carry it and all paperwork with insurances would allow me to sleep well at night even if I need to lose up to 25 to 30 percent of my pay.  Old saying about the win the battle lose the war. We pay by the hour, and have workmans comp on all employees. Dont want the government putting us out of business. Lots of Companies pay a % and give a commission. Our customers like the fact that our techs are not pushing services on them that they dont want or need.
