First, blot up any liquid by putting towels or absorbent rags over the spot and stepping on them. Start with gentle pressure and increase it up to putting your full weight down. Change to fresh rags or towels, until no more liquid comes up. For fresh stains, apply a bacteria/enzyme digester from a pet store, following the directions - it's the only way to deal effectively with both the stain and the odor. Bacteria/enzyme digesters work slowly, so leave the solution on as long as the directions say. Urine has probably penetrated into the carpet and pad, so use enough solution to reach as far down as the stain. Apply the solution, put plastic over it, and step on the spot several times until the area is well saturated. Then, leave the plastic on the whole time the digester is working to make sure the spot doesn't dry out. Old or dry stains are hard - sometimes even impossible - to remove, but try the bacteria/enzyme digester. If it's a popular accident site, the bacteria may produce enough ammonia in the course of breaking down the stains to create a super-alkaline situation that interferes with its own action. In this case, you may need to neutralize the spot after the digester has been working for about four hours. Mix a solution of one cup of vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Rinse the area with this solution and apply a fresh batch of bacteria/enzyme solution. If the stain or odor remains, call a professional deodorizing specialist. A complete cure will probably involve cleaning the entire carpet by extraction and replacing the pad underneath, if not replacing the carpet. |

Hi Danie, Thanks for this valuable post these are reall yvery good tips for us. These are veru helpful, we all have carpet in our houses and we love dog also. So, this thing can do better for our carpet to remove stains and dirt. here are some more tips- 1. Use ater when cleaning pet stain. 2. Avoid detergent and other powder like materials. 3. You can use good wuality cleaning solutions. 4. You can other cleaning methods like steam cleaning, baking soda, hot water cleaning methods. |

Hi, When removing pet stains from carpet you need to make sure to remove the stain from both the visible part of the carpet, but also from the carpet backing and carpet pad, where you may not be able to see the stain, but it unfortunately could have seeped down. You can used this technique for the best result...Even vinegar and baking soda, for example, have chemical properties, such as a pH level, which effect how they are used for stain removal. Hope it can help much.... |

This is a great post! Very useful information especially for those of us who have pets and to pass along to customers who have pets. You definitely need to use a bacteria/enzyme solution to get rid of the odor and help with getting rid of the stain. Thanks for the info on the additional steps! Amanda |

Pet Stain removal from carpets. From a customer perspective, use vinegar. It has a strong smell but if you cook with vinegar or eat in salads you probably will be able to stand the smell. It is temporary anyway.
Want to clean your own pet stains? Here's how: ???? Pet Urine or Pet Urine odor only.
First, if you carpet is damp with urine, clean up with a slightly moistened cloth with water and damp the spot until as much as you can get up. Don't scrub, damp or blot only. Using microfiber cloths or towels work the best they are 10 times more absorbent.
Next apply 50% vinegar and 50% water to the residue spot. Let sit for at least a minute. Important step. Urine forms a larger circle underneath the padding. Larger than you can see. So when applying the solution, make sure you apply at least an inch in diameter around the old spot and saturate to the carpet. This ensures the spots do not come back.
Lastly follow the first step and your pet stain is gone. Cleaning up after pets can be troublesome but with some good advice you can have your carpets cleaned in no time. Hope I helped.

Getting to the bottom of this... You can use or tell people to use old grandmothers remedies that are hit & miss and make zero money doing it. Try to remember what you are dealing with and I am sure the customer and yourself would like the urine to be completely gone. The fact that urine gravitates to the backing and pad means that a spritz of even an effective urine eradicator will not work you need to get to the bottom of things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egEPiDVqPmk">  This is the only extraction tool that will come anywhere close to water, moisture and urine removal from deep-down and within. A standard wand, upholstery or stair tool is NOT THE ANSWER. When you need to use the shotgun approach we suggest cleaning the entire room with KK Enviro Carpet Prespray by both pre-treating followed by steam cleaning (hot water extraction).
