I have a product called GONE I bought it from my supplier as a recomended pre-spray. looks like it should work my only problem is in BIG BOLD LETTERING one of the precautions is Do not use on white or light colored carpet. and as my luck goes the job I just priced today and plan to do the middle part of next week is in fact white. easy enough i'll use this product on darker carpets and find something else to use on light colors. but I was wondering is this just a generic pecaution or is this something that is a well known issue that maybe because of my newness I just hadnt learned yet? anybody know?
by the way it's made by quest chemical co. in houston I checked their web site and this is exactly what it says.
This product is a powerful carpet stain and spot remover. Contains strong cleaners and degreasers to remove stains due to dirt, ink, grease, oil, mud, ketchup, urine, vomit, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and blood. This product quickly saturates materials for instant cleaning. Leaves no residue. Contains no solvents which might soften carpet backings. This product also contains an odor modifier which destroys odors due to urine, vomit & blood through oxidation catalysis. A pleasant fragrance remains. Although this product will not harm most carpet fabrics, it is recommended that the carpet be tested for color fastness prior to using. To test for color fastness, spray small area of carpet in a hidden or out of the way spot & let dry. If product discolors carpet, contact supplier before using. Why would you prespray with an aerosol product? It is designed for use as a spotter

its in a gallon jug, not an aerosol.
cmaster, I might mention, Im real new at this, I own a very small residential cleaning company, we do house cleaning along with a monthly filter and light bulb service, and I in no way claim to be a carpet cleaner. this is just something that more and more has been asked of us as our client list has grown. so we are trying to get started. so please excuse my ignorance on things.
I have been reading as much as possible and have done a few jobs this week. (didnt pre spray) so I went to my local vac shop where I bought my chem. and asked them to suggest a pre-spray, now the guy may have fed me a line , but what he tells me is "I have used gone and it has worked great" but after i got home with it I started looking into it, because to me if it's a pre-spray it would say "pre-spray" but again who am I but a newbie so I took what he said at face value.
no loss if it wont work, so I now own a great big bottle of spotter......chalk it up to lesson learned I suppose. but just outta curiosity do you happen to know what the reasoning behind not using on light or white carpets would be. again excuse the ignorance as I understand I may be asking a common knowledge question.
one last thing, the more I think abou it, I dont wanna put this off on the guy who sold it to me, we were conversating, and he very well could have mis understood me as to what I was needing.

I dont know what "Gone" is. But, it doesnt sound like a prespray to me.
It also sounds to me that it might be a good idea for you to ride along with another cleaner for a day or two....And it wouldnt hurt to attend a IICRC class either. Edited by Thang - 21/April/2007 at 4:24pm |

Ditto what Thang says.
No idea on the white or light carpet restrictions I checked the website. Gone is a spotter not a prespray. I didn't see a prespray on their site. You should look for a reputable supplier that sells a complete line of carpet cleaning chemicals. Edited by cmaster - 21/April/2007 at 10:44am |

see if you have a company around there called bridgepoint. They will have pretty much any thing you need from chems to equipment. As a good prespray i use hydro-break. It works really well for normal soiling. And i agree with Thang, attend an iicrc class, youll learn alot of what you need to know there. start out with the carpet cleaning tech class. And its always a good idea to do what you did here, ask someone who has the experience. A little extra piece of advice. Some cleaners choose not to do it, but ive found it only betters your results. Always pre-vacume, get out as much dirt as you can before putting a liquid on the carpet. Pre spray with a safe detergent (always bleed test). And give the prespray about 10-15 min. before extracting. rinse throughly. Good luck
