Hello all, I am considering purchasing a portable. I went to my local supply house today and this is what they reccomended because of the external heater. It was an EDIS Galaxy 2000SX-HRH 12GAl with heat and 100 psi. It was $1481 with a wand and hoses. I am just getting into the business and with so many choices out there I really would appreciate any input ya'll could provide. Thanks in advace for you help. I think that I would primarily be doing residential and apartments. I cannot afford a tm right now and would like to get started with a portable. my company is buying another porty so i am almost in the same boat...
Jeff, look at the eclipse. it sounds amazing, however, i found in another forum on this page that ppl have been complaining it doesnt peroform well and breaks a lot.
look at the CRI page and look at all their gold rated portables. that is probably how i am going to make my decision.

Check out Mytee,s machines several to choose from and great people to deal with. 100 psi machines are on the low end of the scale and you will need to work a lot harder to get decent results.

I have seen the Mytees and they seem to be very popular. I need to find out if there is a place to get them seviced if it ends up needing it around me. The galaxy is also made with a 200psi pump that has a regulator on it. They told me that I would need to have the seals in the pump changed every two years and would need to clean the regulator pin every thirty days. That does not seem that bad to me. I think I will take your advice and get a a larger pump on whatever I decide to buy. The Eclipses look nice. I will research them a little more. Thank you for the heads up on the top rated machines. That web site is very helpful. Any futher reccomendations on brands of portables that people have experience good or bad with would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
Im thinking this is going to be what i will get. All around quality machine. Plus, if you cant afford at TM, and if your potential clients have an issue with that, you say "I only use Gold rated equipment as per the Carpet and Rug Institute which has a scientific testing system for all machines and cleaning agents."
Tell me what you think.

US products has always made good equipment and will continue to do so.
There are others out there however, to seriously consider that may fit the bill.

Ed will not say. However his products are at the very top of the portable ladder. I have not used his products but i have spoken with Ed. He posesses a wealth of knowledge but doenst make us new guys feel stupid when talking to him. His Recoil machine is basically a modular setup that can have components ordered later to make the machine "grow" with your company as needs arise. I havent purchased a machine yet to start but the good thing about the recoil is you can use it as a truck mount unit as well.
I looked at the Eclipse but after researching everything I think I would get into a Mytee 1003dx with the "shazaam" add on through steam brite rather than purchasing the eclipse or the EDIC. Even the older model Ninja's by centry 400 would be a good choice and still be under 2000 for the machine easily. or put about 2900-4000 for a Recoil setup.

Your right about Ed. I havent spoken with him...YET. I will be calling tho. I've seen people in this forum treating "newbies" like idiots. Like, they have something to prove. I dont get it. There is plenty of business for everyone!!! ...And helping your fellow carpet cleaner is just a cool thing to do. Help the needy right?
I will look into the product you mentioned above. ...And i didnt know Ed's products allow you to add on as you grow. I like this idea alot because i plan on growing substantially in this next year!!!

I know what you mean about the newbie hazing. Most guys on these forums are great guys and rip on us all in fun.
Call Ed for sure. He will point you in the right direction. If you have the capital to invest then go for the Recoil.
If you dont then start with the Mytee and save up for the recoil.

I am planning on it most definitely.
Does the recoil heat the water in solution tank? Also, how is it on blowing breakers? Also, dont you think the Mytee's are too heavy? how is the recoil for a one man operation? can i unload and load by myself??
The recoil is a little out of range, but i will just continue to save if that is the BEST one there is....as i will be using the porty i get for the next year saving for a truck and TM.
im not too worried about the hazing haha, im excited to be self employed. i have been working with my brother cleaning carpets for about 6 months now. i have a pretty firm grip on what im doing.
