Well I have read a lot about this but I am still not sure how this system works? Im kinda confused on this system. Can someone give an in depth description of how it all works and what you do?

If you are talking residential cleaning stick to HWE.

If you are a solo act, young with strong muscles and a back in good shape I agree with Don.
However, if you are older like me (58) with muscles getting weaker and a failing back then bonnet or OP might be a better solution. Or get used to wearing at least one back brace at a time along with knee supports and gloves to protect skin that no longer is as thick as cowhide. |

Age has nothing to do with it. HWE is the only way on residential. Only been cleaning for 40 years and did not start until I was 30. Nothing like a good wand with glides.

anyone that still thinks HWE is the end all for carpet cleaning is mistaken. ..OP cleaning can be very effective on commercial as well as residential... experience will be the deciding factor in when to use it ...i still use HWE in the majority of situations, but there are times where hwe just won’t do it and op will - and sometimes a combo of both are effective... again, experience will be the guide in each instance...

Agreed. I use both bonnet/encap and hwe. There are some situations where encap is simply a better choice than hwe. Even when it's not "better," sometimes it's what the customer prefers.

Michael,
Good choice of words. Sometimes it's what the customer prefers. Many HWE cleaners tend to have their minds set and only offer and almost demand the customer have their carpet steam cleaned. A good carpenter has more than one tool in his toolbox. Some customers are pre-sold on a dryer system and some carpets have better end results when cleaned with OP Oscillating power with cotton pads. There is much debate and education on this site regarding pros and cons of OP. |

As there was about shampoo vs steam cleaning in the 70's.
Same game, different players. If someone makes their living selling truckmounts, they aren't going to support any other method unless they gain financially from those other methods. Ask Butler what they think of OP and don't expect an honest un-biased answer, right? |

Right on Duck Country!
My local Jan/San company does a fair amount of business selling products and supplies but does tons more business servicing and repairing HWE / Restoration equipment. The manager told me that as much as he likes my work and the OP method, he totally loves replacing heating elements, pumps, controller boards, nozzles at $80/hour plus parts (and parts ain't cheap!) PS - I love the Cleanex's "I'd done this for 40 years so it's the only way to clean" statement. I'm certain he's good at what he does but length of service does not always equate to quality of service. |

I started out with just doing OP with the Challenger Machine. Now I do HWE also along with encapping. I try not to limit myself to just one method. For example, I've found that I can clean berber carpet better with OP. Also, sometimes I use both at the same time. Whatever cleans the carpet better, I'll use it. One thing I like doing is using the Host machine to scrub the carpet before HWE. As you can see, I'm not pacial to any method.

Oh, as far as glue down commercial, I encap with an 175 rpm buffer with a tank I connected to it. Don't get me wrong, I have a Dynachem Truck Mounted unit and I love it, but I love the encap cleaning. Encapsulation solution technology has come a long way. These are the methods we use: Encap, HWE, OP, HOST DRY. My customers want clean carpets not carpet cleaning methods.
